Village rings out bell appeal
Tuesday, 01 May 2012
FIVE Bells may be a hamlet on the outskirts of Williton to some people, but to residents in Bicknoller it has become the focus of their Diamond Jubilee fundraising efforts.
‘Bicknoller’s 5 bells’ could soon become ‘Bicknoller’s 6’ under plans to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
Currently, St George’s Church has just five bells and a ready band of trained and trainee bellringers is keen to have another to enable them to ring more interesting peals.
On Saturday, campaigners officially launched Bicknoller’s Jubilee Bell Appeal in the village hall, giving residents the chance to find out more about the appeal and plans to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the village.
Residents were able to enjoy a cream tea and were invited to help raise money for a flower festival, which will also be held in the village during a special jubilee week of celebrations.
